The big day as approaching and will be one of the most wonderful days of your life. Everything is moving along now at a very rapid pace, the flowers have been ordered, the venue is set, caterers are locked in, and the bride and grooms attire finished, and all the little tidbits are in place. Now it just comes down to some small details regarding the reception. There is a matter of the music that will be played at the reception, after all this is suppose to be the most memorable moment of your lives and everything needs to be just right.

The success of the reception can easily be graded on the entertainment, picking just the right music in all categories is very important. Many times an otherwise great event gets spoiled due to a poor showing in the music selection or the D.J just didn't rile the crowd up enough to make it a fun event. In all reality, it does not matter if you go the way of a D.J, or a live performer if the music or its selection is sub par, or even poor, the whole thing can come unraveled relatively quickly. There is a segmented mood that must be placed in all the right areas such as the first dance, the main music for the guests at dinner and prior, and the period where everyone will be on the dance floor shaking their stuff until the wee hours of the morning. This all needs a plan of execution in order to keep things smooth. Definitely the easiest way to have the bride's heart broken is for her to see everyone seated and carrying a look of boredom on his or her faces when the music is being played. She would hope everyone would be feeling good and on the dance floor as in one big and exciting party. This is not likely to happen if you do not appeal to the masses as far as music is concerned.

 Bit of History
Perhaps you can tell me why in this country nobody ever does anything. Nobody ever writes any music or starts any revolutions or falls in love. All anybody ever does is to get drunk and tell smutty stories.
—John Dos Passos (1896–1970)

When picking out a D.J or a live band for your reception, it can be a bit confusing and intimidating. Much of what they really do is unknown by most and understanding exactly what they are trying to get you to understand can easily overwhelm you. Not everyone understands the lingo of the common D.J or band member, you could very well be getting exactly what you do not want, yet signed for it anyways due to lack of understanding. Clear cut communication is the best way to be sure you will receive the services you seek. You must be the one to tell them exactly what you want, rather than them tell you what they will do. If they want your business they will follow your instructions to the letter. This way they will surely get further business, by way of mouth or referral. Anything agreed on must be signed and it would not hurt to have wedding insurance, to prevent any mishaps that may arise. If for what ever reason you do not get the service you signed and paid for, under the terms of the agreement and the combined insurance, this problem will have to be remedied immediately by the hired vendor of face problems down the road.

If you go the route of live entertainment, be sure that the band you hire is indeed the band playing at the reception, and not a substitute that you were not aware of. Again insurance should take care of this problem before it even happens. It must be noted that it is impossible to determine the quality of a live bands performances from a video or audiotape, as every venue played at has different acoustic qualities and allowances, asking for references prior to booking is not out of the question. The very it can be said about DJs, as well. The last thing you want is for a young DJ whom mostly works raves or out of their garage to be handling the most prominent party of your life, again ask for reputable references, not merely their aunt Helen whom feels they have lots of talent and will make it some day. This is your party, make it the way you want and have them on the dance floor all night. There may be forgettable ceremonies, yet there are never forgettable receptions good or bad, which would you prefer?
