3 Air-Headed Mistakes When Learning How to Play Guitar in a Band

by Jackson Ford

Have you committed yourself to learning how to play guitar in a band?

Do you continue to hit a brick wall over and over and can't figure out what you're dong wrong?

Swiftly in the nights,
In the porches of Key West,
Behind the bougainvilleas
After the guitar is asleep,
Lasciviously as the wind,
You come tormenting.
—Wallace Stevens (1879–1955)

Well if this sounds like you then I drummed up a few mistakes that I've seen beginner guitar players make when starting out.

Mistake #1: You bought a cheap guitar. I'm guessing you went out and bought a cheap guitar thinking that you'll just start with something affordable before moving up to a better built instrument. This is a problem. If the doctor told you told buy a knee brace to support your knee you're probably going to go out and purchase the best of the best. The Yamaha F-310, Yamaha G50, and Fender are great guitars for beginners at around $65-80 used.

Mistake #2: You choose the wrong genre of music. I can't stress enough how important it is for you to find your flavor of music. After you've learned the basic strumming techniques take a minute and look at what types of music gets you pumped.

Mistake #3: You can't read sheet music. Invest in a guitar instruction manual that guides you from beginning to end on how to read the notes and play.

Although I couldn't afford one on one lesson's when I first started playing the guitar that wasn't enough to stop me. I turned to friends I had that played in the church band for advice and eventually found a manual that held me by the hand.

So at this point I hope your mind is made up to use these tips. If you're serious click the links below to get more free tips. If you're tired of making mistakes then Click here if you're ready to learn more tips on how to play guitar in a band.
